Bishop's Palace Gardens
Park & Garden, Chichester
The Bishop's Palace Gardens are a walled garden behind Chichester Cathedral, open to the public free of charge. The gardens surround the Bishop's Palace, which has been the residence of the Bishop of Chichester since the twelfth century. Mature trees, herbaceous borders, and a large lawn create a tranquil space within the city walls. The gardens provide views of the south side of the cathedral and the detached bell tower. A path runs along the southern edge where the medieval city wall forms the garden boundary. The gardens are maintained by volunteers and the cathedral grounds team. They are a popular spot for quiet contemplation, reading, and picnics during the summer months.
