Priory Park
Park & Garden, Chichester
Priory Park is Chichester's principal city centre green space, occupying the site of the medieval Greyfriars priory in the northeastern quadrant of the walled city. The park includes a cricket ground that hosts Sussex County Cricket Club matches, a bowling green, a children's playground, and extensive lawns. The motte, a raised earthwork at the northern end, is the surviving mound of Chichester's Norman castle, built shortly after the Conquest. The Guildhall, which stands in the park, is the former nave of the Greyfriars church. The park is popular with office workers at lunchtime and families at weekends. It provides a green lung within the Roman walls and is one of the most pleasant places to spend time in the city centre.
