The Novium Museum

Museum & Gallery, Chichester

The Novium is Chichester's local history museum, opened in 2012 on Tower Street. The building was designed to incorporate a Roman bathhouse that was discovered during excavation of the site, and the bathhouse remains are visible in situ at the lowest level. The museum's collections cover the history of the Chichester district from prehistoric times to the present day, with particular strengths in Roman and medieval material. Displays include finds from local excavations, civic regalia, and social history collections. The name derives from Noviomagus, the Roman name for Chichester. Temporary exhibitions complement the permanent galleries. The museum also runs events and activities for schools and families. Admission is free.
