University of Chichester

Education, Chichester

The University of Chichester has its main campus at Bishop Otter, on the eastern side of the city near Oaklands Park. The institution traces its origins to 1839, when Bishop Otter founded a training college for schoolteachers. It gained university status in 2005. The university has particular strengths in teacher training, sport and exercise science, performing arts, and fine art. A second campus at Bognor Regis houses additional departments. The student population contributes to the city's economy and cultural life. University buildings are spread across the Bishop Otter site, a mix of Victorian original structures and modern teaching facilities. The campus is within walking distance of the city centre and the Festival Theatre.
