Bognor Road

Street guide, Chichester

Bognor Road is the main southern exit from Chichester, heading towards Bognor Regis along the A259. The road starts at the southern edge of the Stockbridge area and passes through a suburban corridor of mixed housing, retail parks, and commercial premises. The road carries heavy traffic, particularly in summer when visitors head to the coast. A significant section of retail and business park development has grown up along the route, including a Sainsbury's supermarket and various trade outlets. The road is functional rather than attractive, serving primarily as a transport corridor. Further south, beyond the city boundary, the character becomes semi-rural before reaching the outskirts of Bognor Regis. Bus services run frequently along the route, connecting the two towns. The Chichester bypass (A27) is accessed via a junction near the northern end of Bognor Road, making this a key intersection in the local road network. The road is dual carriageway for part of its length and has a speed limit of 40mph through the built-up sections.
