Priory Lane
Street guide, Chichester
Priory Lane runs along the northern edge of Priory Park, providing access to one of Chichester's most valued green spaces. The lane connects the Westgate area to the northern part of the city centre and is used by pedestrians heading to the park, the cricket ground, and the Guildhall. Priory Park itself occupies the site of the medieval Grey Friars priory, and the Guildhall building in the park is the surviving nave of the friars' church. The lane has a residential character, with a mix of period and more modern properties. Some of the houses overlook the park and benefit from the open aspect. The entrance to Priory Park from Priory Lane gives access to the bowling green, children's playground, and the motte, which is the remains of a Norman castle mound. The lane is relatively quiet and not a main traffic route, though it carries some local traffic to the residential streets north of the park.
