Terminus Road

Street guide, Chichester

Terminus Road connects the southern edge of the city centre to Chichester railway station. The name reflects its original purpose as the approach road to the railway terminus when the line opened in 1846. The road has a mixed character, with residential properties, a few small businesses, and the station car park. The southern end leads directly to the station entrance, while the northern end connects to Stockbridge Road and the routes towards the canal. The road is well used by commuters walking between the station and the city centre. It is a short street but serves an important function in the city's transport network. Some of the buildings near the station date from the Victorian period and were built to serve railway travellers and workers. The station itself is a modest building that handles services to London Victoria, Brighton, Portsmouth, and Southampton. Taxi ranks and a bus stop outside the station provide onward connections. The road is busiest during the morning and evening commuter rush.
