Westhampnett Road

Westhampnett Road runs east from the city centre towards the village of Westhampnett and the A27 bypass junction. The road passes through the Portfield area and has a mixed commercial and residential character. Car dealerships, trade premises, and retail outlets line parts of the road, particularly near the Portfield roundabout. Further east, the road becomes more residential and then semi-rural as it approaches Westhampnett village. The road is busy, carrying traffic to and from the bypass, the Rolls-Royce motor car factory at Goodwood, and the retail developments along the eastern approach to the city. Westhampnett Road also provides one of the routes to Goodwood racecourse and the motor circuit. The road has seen substantial development in recent years, with new housing built on former agricultural and commercial land near the city boundary. A section of cycle lane has been added in recent years, though the road remains primarily car-oriented. The Portfield roundabout at the western end is one of the busier junctions in the city.
