Whyke Road

Street guide, Chichester

Whyke Road runs south from the eastern edge of the city centre towards the Whyke estate and the southern suburbs. The road is largely residential, with a mix of housing types ranging from Victorian terraces near the city end to post-war semi-detached houses and bungalows further south. Whyke is one of the more affordable residential areas close to the city centre, and the road provides a direct walking route to the shops and station. There is a primary school and a small parade of local shops serving the immediate neighbourhood. The road connects to Sherborne Road and the wider network of residential streets that make up the Whyke area. The southern end approaches the Stockbridge area and the route towards Selsey. Whyke Road is not a main through route and carries mostly local traffic, which gives the street a relatively quiet character compared to the busier arterial roads nearby. On-street parking is permitted along much of the road, and the pavements are generally wide enough for comfortable walking.
